Michigan Island Resort
Grand
Hotel Grand Hotel has been a venerable icon of summer resorts since 1887. With its 660-foot-long veranda—the world’s longest—the Victorian-style hotel offers other amenities on an equally impressive scale. Guest rooms are individually-appointed, and a variety of suites include antiques and rare memorabilia; five suites are named for first ladies Lady Bird Johnson, Betty Ford, Rosalynn Carter, Nancy Reagan, and Barbara Bush, who were all consulted in the designs. Beyond the hotel grounds, the island offers numerous other diversions, including Fort Mackinac (1780) and a historic village with quaint shops featuring Mackinac’s world-famous fudge. Marquette Hotel
The
Landmark Inn With the majesty of Lake Superior on one side, the rolling terrain of historic downtown Marquette on the other, and decades of history within its walls, the Landmark Inn is aptly named. It opened in 1930 as the Hotel Northland and was the social center of Marquette, eventually closing in 1982. A major award-winning restoration began in 1995 and today the inn features a gracious, grand lobby, stained glass windows and guest rooms individually decorated with antiques and reproductions. |
