Natchez Historic Hotel Monmouth
Plantation During the golden age of Natchez, this imposing 1818 Greek Revival mansion was the residence of General John A. Quitman, a Mexican War hero and early governor of Mississippi. He purchased the house in 1826 as a gift for his new wife, Eliza Turner. Damaged during the Civil War, the house gradually fell into disrepair after the death of Quitman’s last descendants. Monmouth was purchased in 1977 and later fully restored; it is furnished in period antiques and features an outstanding collection of carved four-poster and canopy beds. Surrounded by 26 acres of lawns, the house enjoys a picturesque setting amid pebbled paths, magnolias and moss-draped oaks. Click here to check availability for this historic hotel |
