Horse Racing - 18 Minutes/3.5 Km or 2.2 Miles Horse racing is phenomenally popular in Hong Kong and the average betting turnover per race is the highest in the world. Happy Valley racecourse is fifteen minutes from the hotel. Alternatively there is the Sha Tin racecourse in the New Territories.
Dining and Clubbing - 5 Minutes/0.5 Km or 0.3 Miles Lan Kwai Fong and Soho, South of Hollywood Road are two small areas with a vast conglomeration of restaurants, clubs and bars with a huge variety of themes from around the world. For a casual night out this is the place to head to.
ToTT’s ToTT’s at the top of the Excelsior has live music every night, and serves excellent food in the Asian Grill with 240 degree views across the glittering harbour. A glitzy night out.
Hei Hei Club This Bali-Themed club featuring hip hop music is located on 3 floor of On Hing Terrace.
Kee Club A relatively new ‘dining’ club with a classic feel. Picassos on the wall and fine cognacs on the menu.
Sai Kung Market - 50 minutes/24 Km or 15 Miles Sai Kung in the New Territories, offers a similar though less remote flavour of Hong Kong’s rural life. For the more adventurous you can haggle for a speed boat which will take you across to a tiny island with paths through a tiny village and a Tin Hau temple.
Outlying Islands - 80 Minutes/52 Km or 32 Miles Lantau is now home to Disneyland, Lamma and Cheung Chau are both islands with quiet paths winding through sleepy villages with restaurants lining the waterside. If you want to see a different side to Hong Kong life these islands are worth a visit.
Macau Just a short ferry trip, or an even shorter helicopter ride is the ex Portuguese colony, Macau. Its cultural background is reflected in the remaining cobblestone streets and pastel buildings. Mandarin Oriental, Macau is a beautiful resort hotel in the centre of the city.
Disney Land In 2005 Disney Land came to China. Situated on Lantau Island it can be reached by MTR from Central. Prices are HKD 210 to HKD 250 peak rate, for children and adults HKD 295 to HKD 350 peak rate.
Ocean Park For a more low key adventure for the kids visit Ocean Park with animals, shows and rides. Admission costs HKD 140 for adults and HKD 70 for children including all rides.
Man Mo Temple The Man Mo Temple is one of the oldest and most beautiful temples in Hong Kong, located in Tai Po, The New Territories. Built in the 1800s, the temple is dedicated to two deities: Man, the god of literature, and Mo, the god of war. A spiritual space, with the aroma of burning incense.
Po Lin Monastery The Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Island was founded in 1927. The main temple houses 3 bronze statues of the Buddha representing his past, present and future lives. Nearby is the Giant Buddha, it is the world's tallest outdoor seated bronze Buddha.
Arts Festival - 12 Minutes/1.8 Km or 1.1 Miles The Hong Kong Arts Festival which runs from early February to mid March is host to some of the world’s best orchestras, theatre companies and performers. If you are travelling during this period you may be interested to check this programme.
Museums - 25 Minutes/7.4 Km or 4.6 Miles Hong Kong Museum of Art within the Cultural Centre in Tsim Tsa Tsui displays Chinese fine arts as well as some special exhibitions. The Flagstaff House Chinese Tea ware museum is one of the world’s most obscure museums. Located in Hong Kong Park, ten minutes walk from the hotel.
Things to See
Victoria Peak - 20 Minutes/5.6 Km or 3.5 Miles The Peak is Hong Kong’s most dramatic and easily accessible site. Offering 360 degree views of the island and harbour as well as some of the most expensive and luxurious homes in Hong Kong. The display of nightime neon from this vantage point is simply breathtaking.
Star Ferry - 7 Minutes/0.7 Km or 0.4 Miles The Star Ferry trip across the harbour affords terrific views of the receding island which is especially dramatic at night. Whilst a major mode of transport between Hong Kong Island and Tsim Tsa Tsui, it is in fact one of the most scenic journeys you can do in the world.
Hiking - - Minutes/- Km/-Miles Wherever you are it is easy to get out of the city and within half an hour be surrounded by lush tropical greenery with stunning views across the harbour and the South China Sea. There are walks for all abilities taking you through small Chinese villages and sprawling beaches.
Where to Shop
The Landmark Atrium - 5 Minutes/0.5 Km or 0.3 Miles The Landmark Atrium is the fashion nucleus of the city and home to our sister hotel Landmark, Mandarin Oriental. It houses more than 100 of the world’s leading brands, whilst adjacent is the largest Armani store in Asia and the first Harvey Nichols store.
Pedder Building - 1 Minute/Across the hotel The Pedder Building is home to the first Shanghai Tang store and on the many floors above are numerous factory outlets, selling sample clothing and seconds.
"The Lanes" - 5 Minutes/0.5 Km or 0.3 Miles Li Yuen Street East and West, run between the main central roads. These two steep cobbled lanes are lined with shops and stalls, hawking inexpensive clothing, watches, luggage and a few curios, it is an interesting walk and occasionally something unusual will catch the eye.
Stanley Markets - 40 Minutes/13.7 Km or 8.5 Miles Go there to buy Chinese curios, silks, personalised Character stamps and ‘seconds’, cheap designer clothing particularly great bargains for kids clothes. Apart from being a fun market it is a pretty location on the south side of the island.
Kowloon - 20 Minutes/7.0 Km or 4.3 Miles Across the harbour crossed with streets full of factory outlets, audio visual equipment and open markets. The ladies market in Mong Kok and Temple Street night market are both popular for cheap designer goods, watches and gimmicks.

SoHo and Lan Kwai Fong - 5 Minutes/0.5 Km or 0.3 Miles SoHo and Lan Kwai Fong are two adjacent areas that offer an enormous range of small restaurants with themes as diverse as Nepalese to Mexican. Browse round and pick an atmosphere and cuisine you prefer before making a booking.

Dim Sum - 5 Minutes/0.5 Km or 0.3 Miles The restaurants are invariably packed and chaotic, in some restaurants waitresses push trolleys by with steaming baskets to choose from. For traditional Dim Sum visit the famous Luk Yu Tea House, alternatively Maxim’s Palace in City Hall is slightly easier for the visitor.
M at the Fringe - 7 Minutes/0.7 Km or 0.4 Miles For an intimate evening with Mediterranean inspired cuisine try M at the Fringe, this restaurant has been one of Hong Kong’s most popular high class venues since it opened in 1989 - in a city as evolutionary and transient as Hong Kong this endurance speaks volumes.
